| Turkey- Where East Meets West |
Turkey is a stunning country that reflects a fusion of both Eastern and Western culture. Turkey sits between two continents and is home to both European aspirations and Asian traditions. Despite Turkey's location adjacent to Iraq and Iran, the unpredictable nature of the Middle East blends seamlessly into the relaxed lifestyle of the Mediterranean resulting in a beautiful and unique country, whose fusion of cultures appeals to locals and visitors alike. Turkey is proud home to countless opportunities for sight seeing and contains both historical and architectural wonders such as Roman aqueducts and Byzantine Churches. The country's landscape is both beautiful and varied with picturesque mountain ranges and stunning beaches. There are numerous activities to be enjoyed such as exploring seaside towns, many of which have large shopping areas known as Bazaars, in which it is customary that you ‘haggle' with the sellers which means there are plentiful bargains up for offer. Many hotels and resorts often offer complementary boat trips that allow you to enjoy the stunning waters and hidden coves of the country that would perhaps be more difficult to find when exploring on your own. Tours to nearby towns and cities are also readily available and these make for fantastic and convenient ways to discover the local scene without getting lost or flustered! The food eaten in Turkey is similar to other Mediterranean countries such as Greece. Breakfasts are of a continental style with meats, cheeses and Turkish breads followed by a lunch that often consists of a rice or bulgar dish with sausage or lamb. Dinner is equally ample offering meats, fish, vegetables, olives and specialities such as stuffed vine leaves and pickles followed by Turkish coffee and pastries such as Baklava. The weather in Turkey varies depending on the location; areas nearer the coast for example will enjoy slightly cooler summers in comparison to those cities and towns towards the centre of the country. Generally Turkey enjoys very hot temperatures of up to forty degrees Celsius in the summer and although the winter climates are cooler climates the temperatures remain quite mild, certainly in comparison to a number of other European countries, such as Great Britain. For Turkey Holidays visit Monarch where you can secure combined hotel and flight packages for as little as £207 per adult for a week long stay at beautiful coastal resorts, such as Marmaris or Dalaman. |
